High Tech Advertising in Silicon Valley | Chief Mechanic

DreamTeamI’m Patrick Mountain, the guy who does most of the heavy lifting at The Brand Garage. That’s me in front with my terrific PMA agency crew a few years back.

Fresh out of Art Center in the 70′s, I started at Harold Cabot in Boston  (New England Telephone, Howard Johnson, etc.).  After 3 years, tiring of those cold New England winters, I returned to California to take a position in Palo Alto as Art Director at Bozell, Jacobs (World Airways, Lexel Lasers, etc.).

Hello high tech advertising.

In 1978 I opened my own agency, Patrick Mountain Advertising. We worked closely with companies that have literally changed the world (Fairchild, IBM, Memorex. Verbatim, and later for Apple, Adobe, 3Com, and Oracle. Later high tech advertising clients have included Bay Networks, Cisco, Foundry, Gadzoox, Niku and CacheFlow).

While the shop grew with Silicon Valley itself, PMA’s award-winnning work with Specialized Bicycles, Gary Fisher, Kestrel, Blackburn, Yakima Racks, Schwinn and Paramount introduced the mountain bike to the world—and helped build an exciting new industry.

I’ve taught advertising and graphic design at Boston’s Art Institute and San Jose State University, and have lectured at several colleges. I hold a BA in advertising, an MS in Mass Communications from San Jose State, and have completed postgraduate work at Art Center College.

Our home in the Santa Cruz Mountains, which I helped build, was featured in Monterey Life magazine. When I’m not hiking or riding my steel hardtail mountain bike, woodland maintenance on our rural acreage consumes most of my free time.

Office+House

We built a separate garage /office  in 2003 and affectionately dubbed it The Brand Garage.  Every morning I trudge faithfully out to TBG World Headquarters to keep my client’s brands in tiptop shape. I bring in talented associates whom I’ve known for decades to help with complex projects.

I remain passionate about the value of good work and good people! So tap me for a quick project or bring me aboard to develop a brand roadmap to take you to the next level. You’ll find I’m easy to work with, not too full of myself (my wife would argue here), and I bring an arsenal of agency skills and undying enthusiasm for the science of persuasion.
