What marketer doesn’t like Email? It’s free (almost) to send, immediate and so easy to track. No wonder we build and deliver lots of email campaigns for our clients. In fact we typically have at least one email under development every month.
Our development process is straightforward: 1) meet with the client in advance to determine goals and likely stories, 2) gather the content, (write it in some cases), 3) refine the list and upload to our remailer, 4) send a comp in PDF format to edit, 5) revise and test the final on multiple platforms and email clients, including iPhones and Androids, 6) develop the subject line, 7) send the campaign, and finally, evaluate and share project metrics.
We’ll discover how many recipients opened your email, who didn’t (that’s useful, eh?) We know where they clicked, what day and when they opened it, what device they read it on, how long they spent reading, how many pages they viewed…the overall data is impressive.
Over the last several years, we’ve learned a lot about email best practices. We know that 20% is a reasonable open rate. We often beat that benchmark. Analytics show many of our emails are read on handhelds, sometimes 25%, so we build our mailings to 450 to 500 pixels wide so they don’t require resizing on mobile devices.
We can advise regarding the best day and time to send, why we always include links, (including links to social media). We also help our clients with list development, how to get more addresses and how to avoid getting marked as spam.
Many HTML emails from The Brand Garage have clickable areas which bring up separate windows offering more information. We’ve even dabbled in text emails with attached PDF’s which are clickable, much like HTML. But that PDF’s lower chances of delivery since spam filters don’t like attachments, so we now use HTML with no attachments.
